Town Democrats nominate Steger for council
The Town of Newburgh Democratic Committee has nominated Rich Steger to be its candidate for Town Council in the upcoming special election to be held on November 3 to fill a vacancy on the Council which was created by the resignation of James Presutti.
In accepting the nomination, Steger promised to be a voice for those who are not heard by the current Town Council. “We need a new, independent Council member to watch over the Council’s spending,” said Steger. “It’s time to elect someone who will not only ask questions, but will ensure the actions of the Council are clear to the residents”.
Steger has been a teacher in the Valley Central School District since 1993. He is a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. He received his undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Cortland and his Masters of Science in Education at Mount Saint Mary College. He earned his Certificate in Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Steger has been active in the teachers’ union for over 24 years and is currently the president of the Valley Central Teachers’ Association.
Steger is also active in the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation, the Town of Newburgh Democratic Committee, the Orange County Democratic Committee, Stewart State Park Trail Maintenance, and the Hope Not Handcuffs Program.
“I have spent my career using my leadership skills to advocate for my students and members at both the local and state level. I look forward to using my leadership skills to advocate for the Town of Newburgh residents,” said Steger
