The Satmars of Kiryas Joel: An Historical and Cultural Perspective

OCDW presents Prof. Richard Hull, scholar and historian at NY University, on the Satmar escape from Nazi Germany, their ultimate settlement in Rockland and Orange Counties and their historical relationship with non-Satmar communities.   Through his scholarly and historical lens, we come to understand the story of their migration, the development of their unique identity, and some of their customs shaping today's headlines.

Dr. Hull is the author of Jews and Judaism in African History and has written extensively on the subject of immigration and assimilation. He is the official Warwick Town Historian, holder of four teaching excellence awards from NYU and recipient of Warwick's Citizen the Year award in 2013.
